Women Are Pursuing Financial Peace
By Stephanie Marchant, GamePlan Financial Marketing

A generation ago women often ran their families’ households yet let their husbands control the family finances. Financial planners have encountered untold stories of women who, upon the passing of their husband or a divorce, had very little knowledge of their personal financial situation and were lost in a sea of uneasiness and doubt.

As a result, mothers have passed down much knowledge about running a household and taking care of their families to their daughters, but comparably little information about personal financial management.

As women have taken a stronger and more pronounced role in the business world, they also have taken a more active and informed role in managing their own finances. Women are now more empowered than ever when it comes to their families’ personal finance discussions are how their families make financial decisions.

Consider these facts:

·         90% of all women will be solely responsible for their finances at some point in their lives.[1]

·         The percentage of women in the workplace almost doubled in the second half of the last century from 32% to 62%.[2]

·         One-third more women graduated from college than men in 2005.[3]

·         Over half of the women with business degrees out-earned their husbands.[4]

·         The number of women earning $100,000 or more has quadrupled in the last decade.[5]

It is projected that by 2010, 60% of all the wealth in the United States will be controlled by women. Despite this tremendous progress, 90% of women surveyed say that they still feel somewhat financially insecure. They don’t want to end up being a “bag lady.”  You, too, may feel this way.[6]

The path to financial peace of mind is to become a more informed and knowledgeable investor on topics that include debt management, wealth accumulation and maintenance, life insurance and retirement planning.

The first step is to find a financial advisor that you can trust to have open, honest and confidential conversations about what matters most to you about your family’s financial well being.
